Ground Breaking Day Arrived!

Hi Friends! We're ready to go and Grandpa's got his hands full!

Here's momma and daddy with baby Eliza.

Unloading the wagon.

That ground was hard.  It took Grandpa and both grandsons to break it.

What's more fun then pipe and sticks?

Maybe sitting on pipe with your brother?

Well, the ground is ready.  We're hoping the tractors get started tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by.  Love you all!

They're Here! They're Here!

Hi Friends!  Well, we on our way to the kids' home when Ron spotted these two out of place looking creatures in the neighborhood.  Sure enough, two tractors (well, technically one backhoe and one bull dozer type mini cute adorable tractor that looks like one of the grandson's toys) were sitting on our lot, ready for work.  We are ecstatic!  Excited!  And giddy to see this.  It means southern cottage dream will become southern cottage reality.

I'm hoping work will begin within the next few days, so stay in touch because they're here and they're ready to go.

It's Raining!

Hi Friends!  Since I have no updates for you today, due to the rain, thunder and lightning going on around here, I have searched my best youtube videos and leave you this one for your viewing pleasure.  Trains can be such a delightful way to travel.

You're Welcome.  Have a great day.

The Good News And The Bad News

Hi Friends!  It's early and we've already visited the lot to meet the excavator and concrete folks.  Here's the good news, the work is about to begin!  The bad news is, the work has to wait . . . . until the rain stops.

Here is a picture of the work trucks.  I love seeing work trucks in front of my lot. They're so red and white.  And, my jeep is so blue.  You can put that together and see where I'm heading here.  lol.  But it is a grand sight!

This is the meet-up before shooting the grades. Look how blustery it is outside the car, and that's why I'm taking photos with my phone, from inside. Uh huh.  That's right.

I'm sure the guys were talking about something work related but it looks like a prayer huddle to me.  Prayer is needed, there's no doubt about it.  Both for sunshine, and for the excavators because this lot has a rather crazy drop off in the back (remember the culvert?)

And now for the equipment.

Let's put this here.

And let's put it here.  And, done!

 It's starting to rain again.  See the splatters on the windshield.  Brrrrrr.  No worries, though, I have warm coffee inside the car with me.  Ron looks chilled.  He should hurry, but he doesn't because after the men are finished they stand around and chew the fat for awhile.  The following is part of the conversation that I overheard;

Guy in grey:  Do you drink beer?
Ron:  Sometimes
Guy in grey:  We have some good breweries here.  You have to try out such and such a place (didn't hear the name).
Guy in grey lights up a fat brown cigarette.
Guy in shorts to guy in grey: where did you get that?
Guy in grey;  Dominican Republic. Everyone's getting their tobacco from the Dominican Republic these days.
Guy in shorts:  A friend of mine is getting his from (I didn't hear this part).
Discussion ensues about good tobacco these days.
More discussing goes on and oh, yes, the excavator was thrilled to see water on the property already.

Meanwhile . . . .I'm waiting in the car, drinking coffee, watching the rain come down and I'm ready to go back so I can download the pictures, and post this update.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Have a great day!

A Lot With a View

Not sure if you can see the sticks in the grass but that's a layout of the house.  Nothing much else going on today, unless you want to count the constant growth of dandilion weeds.  Just thought you'd like to see something.

Huge Culvert In My Backyard

Building Begins

The process of getting ready to build your own home is a tedious one, and waiting is the name of the game.  We applied for building permits, and waited.  Then we applied for a water usage permit so that we had water on the property for construction purposes such as pouring concrete, and waited.  But, as you can see the water spout is in, and if that isn't exciting enough we just found out we have our building permits too!  Whoo hooo!

So, what is all this?  Well, we have this huge drainage culvert in the back of the lot, so we applied for a permit to cover it.  After some hemming and hawing on the part of the engineer who came out to the property to see just exactly what it was we wanted to do, the permit was granted.  Now we have to lay pipe for the drainage water to continue to flow through the culvert.  When the excavator comes, he'll push dirt over this area.  Is that cool or what?!  No more huge culvert sticking up, and my backyard looks like a backyard instead of a drainage field.  I'm a happy girl.
